2025 Ram 1500 vs 2025 GMC Sierra 1500
The Sierra has been a best seller for a while now, but does that mean it's better than the Ram? You're about to see why popularity doesn't always indicate the best overall product.

Performance
The 2025 Ram 1500 isn't just good looks, it has the power to back it up. With three distinct inline 6-cylinder engines, there is a Ram configuration for any buyer. All three powertrains have a 48-volt starter-generator and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is a naturally aspirated workhorse with 305 horsepower on tap. Upper-level trims come with the same 3.0L V6 with two turbochargers bolted on. Depending on spec, the Ram's "Hurricane" V6 produces either 420 or an eye-popping 540 horsepower. The latter engine rockets this full-size truck from 0 mph to 60 mph in a sports car-like 4.2 seconds. With acceleration like this, you'd think the Ram a gas guzzler - but you'd be wrong. The Ram 1500 returns 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
We were surprised to find out that the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 does less with more available powertrains. Four different setups are bound to confuse would-be buyers and also fail to match the power and economy of the Ram. The base engine is a 2.7L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 310 horsepower, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Upper trim levels can be equipped with one of two V8s that are either a 5.3-liter with 355 horsepower or a 6.2-liter with 420 horsepower. Even with a 10-speed automatic transmission, the Sierra trails the Ram from 0 to 60 mph by over a second and only manages to match its fuel economy rating. It's clear then that in the powertrain department, the Ram 1500 has the goods.
Safety Technology
The 2025 Ram 1500 and the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 both have standard and available safety tech that's commonplace nowadays, such as forward collision assist and blind spot monitoring. However, truck buyers are more inclined to care about one thing above all else: towing. See below for a comparison of the towing-related safety tech that's available on these two brutes.

Interior
The 2025 Ram 1500 model range has a configuration to suit any type of buyer. The Tradesman is the starting point, representing an entry-level model for commercial use. The range-topping Tungsten model is fit for a king with a bevy of features normally reserved for luxury vehicles, including:
- 24-way power heated & ventilated leather seats w/massage
- Genuine wood accents
- Panoramic sunroof
- 23-speaker Klipsch sound system
- 14.5-inch configurable digital touchscreen
The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 also has an impressive range when it comes to trim levels, with a basic model offered as a utilitarian workhorse and topping out with the Denali trim. While it does offer impressive features, we were surprised to find the seats are not as configurable as the Ram's, as they only offer a 16-way adjustment. Things aren't much better when it comes to the sound system, a Bose unit with 12 speakers to the Ram's 23 speakers. Finally, the largest display you can get in the Sierra is 13.2 inches, while the Ram 1500 spoils occupants with a larger 14.2-inch touchscreen.

Bottom Line
If all that matters to you is buying the same truck that most people have, the Sierra is probably your pick. However, if you're looking for the total package of performance, drivability, and fantastic comfort, you should give the 2025 Ram 1500 a serious look.
